EXPERT GUIDANCE

ASSESSMENT OF DYSLEXIA AND ASSOCIATED LEARNING DIFFICULTIES

A diagnostic assessment will identify Dyslexia as well as associated difficulties, such as Dyspraxia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia.

The Skype assessment is a full diagnostic assessment, equivalent to the face-to-face one.  It uses Telepractice, Q-global and Q-Interactive platforms to help individuals interact in a fun, video-linked setting from home. There are numerous visual puzzles and screen sharing activities. Psychologists have the remote tools and authority to do this.  A full diagnostic report will be made available which includes a detailed analysis of the tests and practical recommendations for clients, employers and further/higher education institutes.

The assessment will include the following components

  • Review of educational and occupational history

  • Comprehensive assessment of cognitive abilities, e.g., verbal skills, memory

  • Assessment and detailed analysis of literacy and phonological skills, including timed tests of reading comprehension and of writing;

  • Consideration of any emotional problems related to the dyslexic difficulties

  • An appraisal of strengths and coping strategies

  • General recommendations for further assessment, help and support

The assessment report will be written in a clear, jargon-free style so that it can easily be understood by managers and clients in question.

Dyspraxia is the term used to describe difficulties with spatial skills and physical co-ordination. Another commonly-found characteristic is poor organisational ability.

Dysgraphia is a learning disability that results in difficulty with written expression. Individuals with dysgraphia are able to express themselves fluently orally, but they can’t transfer their ideas to the page. Writing becomes arduous, and they may avoid doing it.

Dyscalculia is a specific learning difficulty that is characterised by impairments in learning basic arithmetic facts, processing numerical magnitude and performing accurate and fluent calculations.

THE PATH TO SUCCESS

ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (ADHD)

We provide the only ADHD test that is both CE marked and FDA cleared for use as an aid in the assessment and treatment evaluation of ADHD for people aged 6 to 60 years old. If positive, a referral to a specialist would be recommended. We do not diagnose ADHD, only screen and assess for symptoms.

The Qb Check is a timed objective test that measures the three ADHD core symptoms; hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention. A test taker’s result is analysed and compared to the result of individuals of the same age and gender, with and without ADHD. The comparison makes it possible for QbCheck, based on objective data, to predict the likelihood of ADHD and provide healthcare professionals with information that can aid in the evaluation and treatment of ADHD.

Why a strengths-based approach?

Empirical research shows that strengths-based interventions have a positive psychological impact, particularly in enhancing individual well-being through development of hope. The literature has identified an association between personal strengths in young people and academic success, self-determination and life satisfaction (Park and Peterson, 2006; Arnold et al, 2007; Lounsbury et al, 2009).

What is strength-based practice?

Strength-based approaches value the capacity, skills, knowledge, connections and potential in individuals. Focusing on strengths does not mean ignoring challenges, or spinning struggles into strengths.

How does it work?

Session one: Help identify client strengths, values and skills and also set desired outcomes.

Session two: Evaluate progress and amplify the work undertaken in session one.

Session three: Help clients stay on track and may involve family members.
